The Exodus route from Egypt to Sinai

Places

After the tenth plague, Israel left Egypt by night from Rameses, marching east toward Succoth and Etham at the edge of the wilderness. Pharaoh's army pursued; the sea opened, the people crossed dry-shod, and the army was lost behind them. They turned south into the wilderness of Shur and on into Sin, fed by manna and quail. Three months out from Egypt they reached Mount Sinai, where they camped nearly a year — receiving the law, building the tabernacle, and forming the nation. The exact route remains debated; the traditional southern reading places Sinai at Jebel Musa in the southern Sinai Peninsula, while northern and Arabian alternatives have their defenders. What is not in doubt is the shape: out of Egypt, through water, into wilderness, to the mountain.
