Rebekah

Chosen as Isaac's wife through a remarkable sign at a well, Rebekah left her family for Canaan and became the mother of Jacob and Esau. She engineered Jacob's receiving of the blessing, saying "let your curse be on me."

Rebekah was chosen as Isaac's wife through one of scripture's most deliberate acts of divine guidance. Abraham's servant Eliezer prayed for a specific sign at the well near Nahor: that the right woman would offer water not only for him but for all his camels. Rebekah appeared and did exactly that. She agreed without hesitation to travel to Canaan, and when Isaac saw her he loved her and was comforted after his mother's death.

When Rebekah was pregnant with twins, the children struggled within her and God told her: "Two nations are in your womb... the older shall serve the younger." She favored Jacob over Esau. When Isaac, old and blind, prepared to give his blessing to Esau, Rebekah devised the plan by which Jacob dressed in goatskins and impersonated his brother. When Jacob hesitated, fearing a curse, she said: "Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice." Jacob received the blessing. Rebekah then sent him away to Haran for safety, intending it to be temporary — but she never saw him again.
